Sailing boat ride (Naema)

On April 26, 2020, we woke up and left early. Martine and Jean-Paul had invited us to spend a whole day on their sailing boat. Their friend Muriel came with us too. Martine is a friend and former colleague of my grand-mother’s. We went aboard their boat Froggy (they had sailed for two years around the world with their two children).

We went to Îlot Goéland (Gull islet): it took us one hour to get there but it seemed shorter since everyone was talking and Dad was steering the boat (at the beginning I talked to Martine at the front of the boat next to the sails).

We left the boat where the water was deep enough to stay and went to Îlot Goéland with the tender. The islet is a sandbank, all trees have died because of the water level going up.

We walked on the beach and ate a strange green plant, an edible succulent. It tasted salty and I didn’t really like it. Then, we decided to snorkel, but we found out my mask had holes under the nostrils so I could not stay long underwater. The adults went and saw cool things. Martine even brought back some sand dollars. After that, we went back to the boat and took a shower at the back of the boat before getting back onboard. Then, we had a delicious lunch before a cool nap. At the end of the afternoon, we headed back to the Noumea port and enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the boat.

What impressed me the most was the inside of the boat, organized like a house: a living room/dining room, a double bed at the front (Lana threw up on it during the navigation), a small kitchen, a toilet and a single bed cabin with closet on each side of the stairs.
